The grinder’s course wheel was replaced with a 1/2″ 3M Scooth-Brite wheel. (1″ wheels just barely DO NOT fit.) The dust collection works great, no nasty grinder dust. Under light use, it’s little hassle to move the dust collector between the ports, but someone else may want to merge the two sides to a single port.
The JET 577101 6″ grinder has a double minor axis ellipse-like dust port. Here is a 3D printed adapter to convert this to a common 2-1/2″ port. The design was done in SolidWorks using lofted surfaces and a draft, exported as STL, and printed on a Makerbot Thing-o-matic. It took a bit of trial-and-error to get the dimensions correct. The sweeping shape is quite beautiful, and demonstrates where 3D printing really shines. It took roughly 45 minutes to design and print this. The part can be downloaded.
